Reassurance in Turbulent Times

October 5, 2020

As I juggle virtual school with two middle school daughters, a spouse managing his two restaurants and my own career, I’ve realized this entire pandemic experience is comparable to a really turbulent flight.

Think about it. Overall, there is nothing pleasant about it, but around you – some are doing better than others. Some are sick, some are crying, some seem to act like nothing is happening at all.

You know the experience won’t last forever, but you don’t know how long it will go on – a few more minutes, an hour, the entire flight?

You can hit a few good minutes, thinking things are better, and then things suddenly drop, and you feel like you are going to crash.

You are also smart enough to understand that your chances of not surviving are extremely rare – I mean, how many flights crash because of turbulence?

You also have no way off the flight and you’re at the mercy of a person flying the plane – who you don’t know and just hope they are making the best decisions.

What does my story have to do with financial planning?

I think our team at Johnson Bixby is like your calm, knowledgeable flight attendant.
