An Interview with Johnson Bixby’s Insurance Specialist
A critical part of any financial plan having a strategy in place to protect the wealth you have worked hard to accumulate. Insurance plays a key role in providing that protection. That is why at Johnson Bixby we feel it’s important to have an “in-house” insurance specialist who works with clients through each step of the process, including designing coverage, obtaining quotes, working with carriers to process applications, and delivering policies. In today’s blog post we ask our in-house Insurance Specialist Jeri Boston a few questions about the insurance landscape at Johnson Bixby.
What background or specialized training do you have as our Insurance Specialist?
I have been working in the financial services industry since 2006. I obtained my series 7 and 66 securities licenses and insurance licenses in Washington and Oregon that same year. I joined Johnson Bixby in 2013 in the role of Insurance Specialist. In 2014 I became certified in Long Term Care insurance, earning the CLTC designation from the Corporation for Long Term Care Certification, Inc.
What kinds of insurance do you offer?
Life insurance, long term care insurance and disability insurance.
What insurance companies do you work with?
We have a wide selection of carriers to choose from and we only work with financially stable, highly rated companies. We do not benefit by choosing one company over another. We select the right company with right product, specific to each client’s situation.
Why should one buy insurance through Johnson Bixby rather than other venues (i.e., online, through their homeowner’s carrier, etc.?)
Because of the number of carriers available to us, we can shop around for the most competitive premiums and products that are best suited for our client’s individual needs. We work with several insurance brokers who provide us with in-depth knowledge and assistance on complex cases. They keep us current on trends in the insurance industry and product enhancements. After a policy is issued, we are here to answer ongoing questions, help file a claim, make changes with existing coverage, or assist with basic administrative changes like changing beneficiaries.
What life events would affect my need for insurance?
It’s always a good idea to review your insurance coverage but a few key life events that may affect your needs include marriage or divorce, births, inheritance and career changes.
Why is it important to regularly review my insurance coverage?
Major life changes (marriage, divorce, birth, inheritance, career changes) will affect your need for insurance and reason to review the policies you currently own.
In addition, world changes—such as fluctuations in interest rates—can also change an insurance carrier’s financial stability. Improved insurance benefits are important reasons to take a second look at your current coverage. The internal cost of many types of insurance are more favorable now than in the past. This means you may qualify for the same coverage today but at a lower cost.
What if my existing policies are adequate and up-to-date?
Perfect and congratulations! However, we know many people receive their annual insurance statement and file it away, never taking time to review and fully understand it. If you fall into that category, don’t hesitate to reach out to us so we can make sure your insurance policies reflect your current needs and financial situation.
